Hey, I'm Dave.
I've spent my career making technology make sense to people. JumpTheSharkAI.com is where I do it for our generation.

A translator between tech and everyone else
For more than 25 years I've worked in broadcast TV, live events, and streaming as a director, technical director, systems engineer, and producer. I've worked on productions with NBC, ESPN, and CNN, and on events for companies like Google, Apple, Cisco, and Visa.
From 1998 to 2004 I was at TechTV, back when explaining computers to regular folks on television was a brand-new idea. That's where I learned the most important lesson in tech: if people don't understand it, it doesn't matter how good it is.
I'm Gen X. I grew up on rotary phones and Saturday-morning cartoons, and I've watched every big tech wave come through the living room. AI is the biggest one yet. I don't want anyone our age sitting it out because nobody bothered to explain it.
What you can expect from me
- Honest answers, including "I don't know" and "don't use AI for that."
- Plain English, with references from our era.
- Patience. Nobody gets left behind.
When I'm not behind a camera or a switcher, I'm a dog dad and a foster dog advocate here in the San Francisco Bay Area.
